Wow, your squares are measuring much smaller than anticipated.  I'm thinking your stitches must be much tighter than mine.  Maybe try working these up again with a larger crochet hook such as an I/9-5.50mm to adjust for the difference.  We are still only half way through the project, so if you need to start a square over, there is plenty of time.  🤗💖🧶

Wow, great catch.  I'm so grateful you said something.  Please go ahead and work up the 51 chains like I said in the video.  I'll be adjusting the pattern to match. 😊

Oh, how funny.  I think I just responded to your question in an email.  But I'm also glad you asked here so that more people can benefit from the answer.

If you measure your foundation row and it hits the dimension you want, but them measure again a few rows in and notice the dimension has grown!  It just means that the stitches you used in the project needed more space to lay flat than was provided in your foundation row chain.  The stitches stretched your chain out.

SOLUTION:

What's great is that you are still at the beginning and it won't be such a heartbreak to start over.  BEFORE you do though, take your tape measure and count how many stitches over 40 inches are in each row.  That way you will know how many to take out when you go back to your foundation. 🤗.  It's also ok if you are slightly thinner in your width dimension!  You can simply add a border around the blanket to hit all you measurement marks.

I hope this helps Tasha!  I'm so excited for you to make this blanket!

Laurel, I don't think I could have helped you pick a better stitch to use for this blanket project.  It's perfect!  The shell representing the beach but still lacy.  The color ombre effect even looks like movement of water.  I can't wait for you to give this blanket to them.  You did a fantastic job! 🤗💖🧶🏖️🥂

I see a lot of overlap with most people.  I created this document by combining 3 different documents I found from Craft Yarn Council, the back of Crochet Magazine, and a crochet book I have.  They were each slightly different but I think I got the gest.  It's interesting what all is included and how someone might find that they don't necessarily need to know a certain skill based on what projects they focus more on.  🤷🏼‍♀️
