Hi Jennifer! What a FUN blanket! What a GREAT graduation gift as well! Ok, yes, you can convert this pattern from a C2C to a normal, rows, type blanket. You could also utilize a Half Double Crochet or Double Crochet Stitch to help with length. The one thing I'm a little hesitant on is that converting this pattern will take finagling and a very good understanding of color changes. Because you don't know what the blanket dimensions are you will also want to swatch to figure this out.
Before you begin, I would recommend you making a swatch, using only one color, like the green on the bottom corner. Swatch using all half double crochet stitches And do another swatch using all double crochet stitches. Measure how many stitches across and how many rows tall. Measure how tall each individual row measures.
Then think what size blanket you are wanting to make.
Next, make a swatch looking at the grid. Maybe 10 squares wide x 10 squares tall.
