Great question with the scrap purse!  What I found is that because we are working with scrap yarn, or yarn that is mixed and matched, we cannot join the sides of the bag with a one-to-one stitch ratio.  Meaning, if you were to join one stitch to one stitch it is not guaranteed to work out.

What I found with this project is that you need to pin the pieces together in multiple spots and then almost join the two rectangle pieces together without looking at the stitches, just pinch and join, pinch and join.  Continuously checking to make sure your rectangle has not shifted or moved.
